ABR 12U Storm and Aces Compete in Cooperstown!

During the week of August 26th, the ABR 12U Storm and Aces teams traveled to Cooperstown, NY, the birthplace of baseball, to play a tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park.

Cooperstown tournaments are unique experiences for the players and coaches as each team stays in their own barracks at the park through the duration of the tourney week. All meals, practices and team activities are held at the park.

The week began with the Opening Ceremonies and the march of teams, followed by skills competitions: a timed “around the horn” team event, and for individual players, throwing, base running and the fan favorite home run derby. Both ABR teams had players in the semi-finals in the 125-foot centerfield to home throwing event.

On the diamond, the 12U Storm went 5-1 in Cooperstown Pool Play, earning a #17 ranking out of 104 teams. The Storm finished with a 5-2 overall, going 1-1 against teams that finished in the Sweet 16. The 12U Aces went 1-5 in pool play, facing 2 eventual top 16 teams including the 2017 New York State Little League Champions (on which the gritty Aces hit a grand slam).

By the end of the week, each team played at lot of great baseball and visited the Baseball Hall of Fame. Many players traded and amassed huge collections of team pins, hit home run balls and got their fill of Cooperstown Penguin Ice Cream.

Interesting fact: Quite a few notable MLB players have competed in this tourney including All-Stars Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and David Price, among many other professional players.
